Wildlife Hospital Technician

Hospital Wildlife Technician - Full Time

Brief Job Description:  Responsible for feeding, watering, and cleaning animals in the hospital and sanctuary rehab. This position is also responsible for performing necessary medical treatments for patients, and for caring for sick, orphaned, and injured wildlife by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Cleans and disinfects animal cages, water, and food bowls inside hospital and outside in sanctuary.

  • Administers medications and treatments, such as injections, tube feedings, and nebulization, to animals in hospital.

  • Monitors patient status and reports findings to Assistant Medical Director.

  • Completes orphaned bird and mammal feedings as instructed.

  • Transfers animals from one enclosure to another for the purpose of treatment, cleaning, and rearranging enclosures.

  • Adds vitamins and medications to food as directed by Assistant Medical Director.

  • Prepares food or liquid feeds as directed by the Assistant Medical Director or other technicians.

  • Cleans all dishes in all hospital rooms and in outdoor rehabilitation enclosures.

  • Assists with triage exams on incoming patients as directed by the Assistant Medical Director.

  • Conducts basic facility upkeep (both inside and outside) including daily laundry, trash and all dishes including cleaning, organizing and restocking.

  • Assists with animal intakes, as needed.

  • Inputs information into WRMD database.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to see color.
